Diversity Celebrations
Throughout the week 16th-20th June, we are celebrating diversity at Edgbarrow!
During the week, students will have an assembly about the celebration of diversity in the UK and the Student Council and Umbrella club will be creating a student activity that celebrates Pride Month, and students will be asked to think about what makes them special.
Our showcase event will take place at school on Friday 20th June. This event will be a celebration of the heritage and culture that are represented in our school community and an opportunity for us to all learn more about each other.
On Friday afternoon students will visit our showcase during their period 5 lesson where groups of students and parents/carers will share aspects of their cultures and backgrounds with the rest of the school. This will include tasting samples of traditional foods from around the world, prepared and provided by a range of different groups. If your child has a food allergy, please ensure they are aware that food samples may not have all allergens marked and they should not taste food where we cannot guarantee it is allergen free.
Friday will be a non-uniform day and would like students to come in colours associated with a flag that is special to them, or any national dress they are happy to wear. It has been decided that any money raised will be given to COATS, as this is a charity working at the heart of our local community. If you would like to make a contribution, this can be made via Scopay, or in cash to tutors.
The timing of the school day will change slightly to allow all students to visit the showcase:
- Periods 1, 2 and 3 will be as normal
- Lunchtime will be at 12.35pm for all students
- Period 4: 13.15 -14.15 for all students
- Period 5: 14.15 – 15.15 students visit the showcase during this lesson.
Students should ensure they have all their books and equipment for lessons on Friday afternoon as visits to the showcase will be staggered by year group.
We are really looking forward to our Diversity Celebrations and seeing so many of our students and families taking part, so we thank you in advance for your support.
